LONDON, May 8, 2007 - RBC Capital Markets, the corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada (RY on TSX and NYSE), today announced the appointment of Tim Chapman as Managing Director, Global Investment Banking.  Based in London, he will be responsible for leading the bank's international energy business across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the FSU.  Chapman and his team will actively coordinate with RBC Capital Markets' energy teams in Calgary, Houston and throughout North America to continue to build the firm's energy business globally.

Chapman joins from CIBC World Markets, where he headed the European Oil and Gas team as Managing Director.  Prior to that, he spent 11 years with JP Morgan Chase in its European energy group.  Chapman's wide experience includes advising a broad range of international energy clients on M&A, debt and equity financing activities.

RBC Capital Markets also announced two additional hires to its Global Investment Banking Energy team: Louise Mooney and Robert Gair join as associates reporting to Chapman.

"RBC Capital Markets' leading position in the international energy market is further strengthened by these key hires and we are extremely pleased that Tim, Louise and Robert are joining us," commented Patrick Meier, Managing Director, Global Investment Banking. "Tim's in-depth experience further enhances our existing team's capabilities, and will provide an invaluable insight into the market that will be of great benefit to RBC Capital Markets' clients on a global basis."
