RBC Capital Markets Makes Key Hires in Europe
Developing Sponsor and Loan Capital Markets Coverage

 


London, 25 July 2011 - RBC Capital Markets, the corporate and investment banking arm of Royal Bank of Canada (RY on TSX and NYSE), today announced the appointment of three new hires in Sponsor Coverage and Loan Capital Markets in its Global Investment Banking business in Europe.


Steven Jones has joined RBC Capital Markets as a Managing Director in Sponsor Coverage. Jones brings over 20 years of sponsor coverage and leveraged finance experience to the investment bank, having most recently been at RBS where he was a Managing Director in the Financial Sponsors Group. Prior to this, Jones held similar positions at JPMorgan Chase and Credit Suisse First Boston. At RBC Capital Markets, Jones will help grow the sponsor business through his senior relationships with mid-and large-cap financial sponsors and coordinate RBC Capital Markets financial sponsor relationships in Europe.


Tim Cottrell has also joined RBC Capital Markets as a Managing Director and Co-Head of its European Loan Capital Markets Group. Cottrell joins with over 15 years of experience in loan capital markets, most recently at Lloyds Banking Group where he was Head of Loan Sales and Secondary Loan Syndicate. Prior to Lloyds, Cottrell was at Unicredit CIB and Morgan Stanley and Bankers Trust. At RBC Capital Markets, Cottrell will be responsible for syndicating leveraged finance transactions for corporate and financial sponsor clients, and will co-head the group with Colin Lambert, Co-Head of Loan Capital Markets.


Ollie Champion has also joined RBC to bolster its Loans Capital Markets Group. Champion is a Director in the team. Champion was most recently in the Structured Debt Syndicate team of Lloyds Banking Group. Prior to this, Champion held roles at Barclays Capital and ANZ Investment Bank as an Oil & Gas originator. At RBC Capital Markets, Champion will specialise in structured transactions within infrastructure.

RBC Capital Markets has been steadily growing its Global Investment Banking business in Europe, where it now employs over 120 bankers in the region. In Europe, the investment bank now covers the mining and metals, oil and gas, financial services, infrastructure, industrials and business services sectors. This latest appointment follows the recent announcement that Judith Fishlow Minter has joined RBC Capital Markets as Co-Head of the US Loan Capital Markets Investment Banking Group, based in New York. The US Investment Banking division at RBC now comprises over 370 professionals, currently covering 13 industries including Aerospace & Defense / Government Services; Automotive; Communications, Media & Entertainment; Consumer & Retail; Energy; Financial Institutions; Industrials & Diversified Services; Infrastructure; Healthcare; Power & Utilities; Real Estate; Technology; and Transportation..
