In 2010, RBC first partnered with GOSH to stage a 5km fun run to raise much-needed funds for the hospital’s neurosciences department. That first event saw 1,500 runners raise £315,000. Fast forward ten years and RBC Race for the Kids has raised more than £5,000,000 for GOSH’s young patients and their families. The team at the RBC Neurosciences Unit, which officially opened in January 2018, now treats some of the most serious medical conditions in the country.
The funds raised from this year’s Race will go towards Royal Bank of Canada House, an accommodation block located right next to the hospital’s main entrance that will be extensively renovated over the coming year. This much needed accommodation will provide families with a home away from home while their children are being treated at the hospital.
"Each time I visit GOSH, I never fail to be inspired, not just by the patients who are facing such huge challenges, but by the people who work there."
Dave Thomas, CEO, RBC Europe said: 'At RBC, we recognise that it’s not only the children at GOSH that face challenges and hardships, but families are also exposed to a huge amount of trauma. That’s why projects with families in mind, such as Royal Bank of Canada House, are incredibly important to us.'
RBC is committed to supporting youth and communities and over the last ten years RBC and its employees have formed a special connection with GOSH. The London event is one of 17 RBC Race for the Kids fun runs globally, with over 210,000 participants taking part with the Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong Races up next.
Thank you to all of our employees, clients, suppliers and members of the community for their continued support.
