The Nature Conservancy is Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders

The mission

The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. The Nature Conservancy is working to boldly address the biodiversity and climate crises this decade and is focused on making a lasting difference by 2030 so people and the planet can have a brighter future.

Since 1951, The Nature Conservancy has been working in partnership with individuals, local communities, government agencies and private businesses to protect the natural landscapes that harbor the diversity of plant and animal life on Earth. Their methods of protecting land include outright purchase, placement of easements, and partnerships with local agencies and other groups.

The Nature Conservancy has a long history of protecting lands, rivers, lakes and oceans through projects on the ground. They collaborate with partner organizations in the field and with governments and other influencers to inform policy decisions and direct public funding to further their mission. The list of countries in which The Nature Conservancy works reflects the diverse ways in which they impact conservation around the world.

The program

The RBC Foundation USA currently supports the Nature Conservancy’s partnership with Green City Force:

Green City Force Program is a workforce development organization that empowers young adults from low-income communities to drive the development of a greener and more resilient city. The Nature Conservancy partners with Green City Force to train program participants to inventory trees in New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) campuses in order to better understand their role in the New York City urban forest and opportunities for its expansion and maintenance. Through Green City Force, young adults living in frontline communities gain the skills, practical experience, and certifications required to pursue and secure green careers. The collaboration between The Nature Conservancy and Green City Force helps offer a living wage to participants pursuing green career pathways, while also improving the climate resiliency of heat-vulnerable NYCHA communities.
