The mission
The Trust for Public Land (TPL) creates parks and protects land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come.
TPL believes the outdoors are essential to our happiness, health, and well-being. TPL works with communities to create quality parks and green spaces that are fundamental for sustaining equitable, resilient communities. Access to nature and the outdoors—close to home, in the cities and communities where people live—is a matter of health, equity, and justice. That’s why TPL works alongside communities across the country to create, protect, and steward the nature-rich places that are vital to humans’ well-being.
The program
The RBC Foundation USA currently supports the Community Schoolyards® program:
The Community Schoolyards program works to increase climate resilience, bolster health, and strengthen communities. The RBC Foundation USA’s donation supports high school students’ stipends, training, and internships across five locations. In partnership with several organizations, students will learn about green careers, train in green construction trades, and develop and maintain green infrastructure projects.
Additionally, ten Newark, New Jersey students will have an opportunity to intern with urban farmers with a variety of technical expertise. Youth will also obtain skills in digital literacy, resume writing, and public speaking.
