Global Markets

Jonathan Hunter is Head, Global Markets for RBC Capital Markets, and has been a member of the RBC Capital Markets Operating Committee since 2008. He is also on the board of RBC’s U.S. Intermediate Holding Company (IHC).

Jonathan has been with RBC for more than 30 years, joining its Dealer Trainee Program in 1991. Since then, he has held progressively senior roles within Capital Markets, including Global Co-Head, Fixed Income and Currencies (2006-2011), based in New York, and Global Head of Liquid Products (2002-2006), based in London. He most recently held the role of Global Head of Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities since 2011 before his appointment to Head of Global Markets in November 2020.

Today, Jonathan leads a team of close to 2,000 professionals within Global Markets, collectively comprised of Sales & Relationship Management, Digital Solutions & Client Insights, Central Funding, Equities, Spread, and Macro business lines. Global Markets is a significant contributor to RBC Capital Markets earnings, and is focused on driving best-in-class client solutions across multiple asset classes through digital innovation and thought leadership.

Jonathan recently completed an eight-year term as a member of the Board of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA).

Jonathan is also actively involved in RBC’s diversity, mentorship and recruitment initiatives, and is a member of RBC Capital Markets’ Canadian Diversity Leadership Council. In 2018, he was formally recognized by the Women in Capital Markets organization as a Champion of Change in acknowledgement for his ongoing efforts to advance women in the workplace.

In addition, Jonathan is a key participant and contributor in RBC’s many community and charitable initiatives, including the RBC Race for the Kids, RBC Trade for the Kids, and he serves as a member of the United Way’s Major Individual Givers cabinet as part of RBC’s annual Employee Giving Campaign.

With Jonathan’s focus on digital transformation, he was recently named to the Advisory Board of the newly designed Smith’s Master of Financial Innovation & Technology (MFIT) program at Queen’s University. He also served as Chair of the Board of Trustees, and sat on the Board of Governors, for The Bishop Strachan School in Toronto from 2015 to 2021.

Jonathan earned his Honours Bachelor of Commerce Degree (Finance) from Queen’s University in 1991, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).

Ivan Bandic is Global Head, Capital Markets Treasury and both a member of the Global Markets Operating Committee as well as the Enterprise Corporate Treasury Operating Committee.

In this role, Ivan leads the management of Enterprise’s short-term funding and liquidity needs, oversees the Capital Markets Liquidity Asset Portfolio, and optimizes Capital Markets financial resources, including the management of derivative-related XVAs (credit and funding risks).

Since joining RBC Capital Markets in 2004, Ivan has held increasingly senior positions spanning risk management, trading and treasury functions. His career progression includes roles as Head of Portfolio Optimization in Rates Trading (2012), Global Head of Resources Management (2016) – which consolidated financial resources, collateral management and XVA trading across the organization – and Global Head of CM Treasury (2023), each expanding his mandate to address evolving Capital Markets priorities.

Ivan holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from the University of British Columbia and is a CFA charter holder. He lives in Toronto with his wife and two children.

Jim Byrd is Global Head, Macro Products at RBC Capital Markets.

Jim began his career with RBC in Toronto as part of the Global Markets Training Program before a five-year stint in RBC’s London office. Jim was named Managing Director in 2006 before becoming Head of Canadian and then Global Rates in 2017. In 2021 Jim was appointed Global Head of Macro Products and is responsible for RBC’s Rates, Commodities, Foreign Exchange and Futures businesses.

Alongside the Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada, Jim co-chairs the Canadian Fixed Income Forum (CFIF) and is executive sponsor of RBC Pride in support of LGBTQ+ initiatives within Capital Markets. In 2023, Jim co-chaired the Global RBC Employee Giving Campaign and in 2024 was named one of Versa-Fi’s Champions of Change for being a leader in advancing equity in the workplace.

Jim is a native of Newfoundland and graduated from Memorial University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a CFA charterholder.

He lives in Toronto with his wife and two children.

Derek Flood is Global Head, Cash Equities and Research at RBC Capital Markets.

Derek has been with RBC since 1995, working in a variety of roles at the firm, including in Corporate Finance with Investment Banking and the Institutional Equity Group. He is responsible for delivering global equity products and capabilities to RBC’s institutional client base.

Derek is an Executive Sponsor for RBC Capital Markets’ RWomen Canada employee resource group and was co-chair of the RBC Capital Markets Canadian Diversity Leadership Council from 2015 to 2019. He is a member of the RBC Capital Markets Foundation Committee and he serves on the Board of Capitalize for Kids and Baycrest Foundation. 

Derek graduated from Queen’s University in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours Economics) degree and from the Richard Ivey School of Business in 2000 with a Masters of Business Administration degree. He and his family live in Toronto. 

Sian Hurrell is Co-CEO Europe & Head, Capital Markets Europe.

As Co-CEO, Sian drives the strategic direction and oversight of the bank's European Capital Markets and Wealth Management businesses, spanning multiple jurisdictions and bringing together RBC's global capabilities to deliver integrated solutions for clients. As Head of Capital Markets Europe, Sian oversees a platform that combines deep regional expertise in Investment Banking, Corporate Banking and Global Markets, with the scale of a top 10 global investment bank. Capital Markets Europe serves major corporates, financial sponsors, Sovereigns, Supranationals and Agencies (SSAs), insurance companies, banks, asset managers and hedge funds, bringing together advice, capital, liquidity provision and market access to help clients achieve their objectives.

In her global sales, relationship management and structuring role, Sian leads client strategy and execution across Macro, Credit and Equity products for RBC Capital Markets’ Global Markets clients worldwide. With over 30 years of capital markets experience working with global corporate and institutional clients she has a proven track record of guiding clients through periods of market volatility and change, helping them to capitalise on market opportunities, and manage their hedging and investment objectives.

Since joining RBC in 2013, she has held senior leadership roles including Head of European Fixed Income and Currencies, Global Head of FX, and Head of Global Markets Europe. Prior to RBC, she led European Financial Institution Sales at Royal Bank of Scotland (now NatWest Markets).

Sian is a prominent industry voice shaping the future of financial markets. She has held leadership positions on the FICC Market Standards Board, the Bank of England's Joint FX Steering Committee, the Bank of Canada's Canadian Foreign Exchange Committee, and the International Capital Markets Association (ICMA). Most notably, she served seven years on the Board of the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), including as Chair of the Nominations Committee, helping to guide the evolution of global derivatives markets including LIBOR transition.

Sian holds a BA Hons degree from the University of Leeds in the UK.

Rod Ireland is head, RBC Wealth Management – Asia. In this role, Rod is responsible for the wealth management businesses based in Hong Kong and Singapore. In addition, he is head of Global Markets APAC. 

An accomplished business leader, Rod leads the Global Markets businesses across the APAC region (Australia, Singapore, Japan), with responsibilities including managing key client relationships across financials, corporates, asset managers and government agencies and ranging from group treasurers, CIOS and CEOs. Rod is also responsible for effective governance and regulatory oversight for RBC’s activities in Singapore.

Since joining RBC in 1998, Rod has been pivotal in driving and executing strategies that have established RBC as a tier one organization in a number of global markets businesses across the APAC region.

Mark Maroney is Head, Global Spread Products in the Global Markets business at RBC Capital Markets. He is a member of the Capital Markets US Regional Operating Committee, and a member of the Global Markets Operating Committee. Mark is active across industry bodies having participated on various Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) Fixed Income sub-committees, and now as a board member of the Global Financial Markets Association (GFMA).
 
Mark joined RBC Capital Markets in May of 2007 to oversee the Municipal Products Group. Since then, he has held progressively senior roles within the Global Markets business. This includes his appointment to Co-Head, Global Spread Products (2018 – 2022), and now as the Head of the Global Spread Products business line.
 
Prior to joining the firm, Mark was a Managing Director in the Fixed Income Group at UBS.
 
Mark received his Bachelor of Science from the University at Albany in New York with dual concentrations in Finance and Management Information Systems and holds the following licenses: Series 7, 63, 24 and 53.
 
Mark is a Co-Executive Sponsor of RHeart, RBC’s employee resource group dedicated to supporting the advancement, recruitment, and retention of professionals with invisible and visible disabilities and diverse abilities, while raising awareness and promoting their inclusion at the firm. He has also previously served on the RBC Capital Markets US Diversity Leadership Council. Mark is a key supporter of the RBC Race for the Kids in New York. He also serves on the Board of Horizons at the Jersey Shore, a tuition-free academic and enrichment program serving low-income public school students in New Jersey.

James Masserio is Head, Global Equities at RBC Capital Markets, and a member of the Global Markets Operating Committee.

James began at RBC in February 2025 and has spent the vast majority of his 25-year career in Equities. He has significant leadership experience, a track record of strong strategic thinking and execution, and a deep understanding of market dynamics and risk.

Prior to joining RBC, James led Global Markets Americas at Société Générale, where he oversaw Equity and Fixed Income groups across sales, trading and engineering. He was also responsible for market and credit risk management, client strategy, operating cost management and technology development. Prior to this, James was the Co-Head of Equities Americas, leading equity derivative sales and trading, Delta One, cash equities, prime services and quantitative market making, building on his derivatives and structuring background. In addition, James spent the first 16 years of his career in Equities at Credit Suisse, where he held successively more senior roles culminating in Head of Equity Derivatives in the Americas.

James holds a BSc from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He currently resides in New Jersey with his wife, three daughters and dogs.

Daniel Rosenbaum is Head, Central Funding (CFG) business division and Chairman of the RBC (Barbados) Trading Bank Corporation and RBC CMA LLC subsidiaries. As the Head of CFG, Daniel is responsible for overseeing a global secured financing business which delivers balance sheet solutions to its clients as well as managing investment and market making strategies.

Daniel joined RBC Capital Markets in 1999 in New York as member of the firm's Global Arbitrage and Trading business. He was transferred to London in 2000 where he developed a European trading business as well as co-founded the CFG business. In 2005 he relocated to the Bahamas to develop the firm's Caribbean platform before being transferred back to New York in 2010. 

Daniel holds a BS in Mathematics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a MS in Operations Research from Princeton University.

Jeremy Sonnenburg is Global Head, Quantitative and Technology Services (QTS) and serves as the line of business CIO for RBC Capital Markets (RBCCM). He and the QTS team are responsible for all software applications and quantitative analytics used by the Capital Markets division. 

Jeremy joined RBC in 2010 as the Global Head of Commodities Technology. Since joining RBC, Jeremy has held several technology leadership roles in CM with increasing responsibility. At RBC, Jeremy sits on the Global Markets Operating Committee (GMOC), the T&O Operating Committee (T&O OC), and the US Diversity Leadership Committee (USDLC). He is also a regular guest at the Capital Markets Operating Committee (CMOC).

Prior to RBC, Jeremy held senior roles to drive change at Barclays Capital and Credit Suisse. He started his career as a consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) working as a technology consultant in financial sector and the Energy Downstream Wholesale Trading sector. Jeremy is a graduate of the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas in Austin where he studied Management of Information Systems.
