Sean Miller on the changing landscape for Australian infrastructure deals

RBC is building out its investment banking sectors in Australia to capture more business from increasing inflows from Canada, as well as the growth in infrastructure sub-sections like renewables.

Sean Miller, Head of Investment Banking in Australia, spoke with the country’s leading business publication, the Australian Financial Review (AFR), on the M&A landscape for 2019 and how RBC, described by them as “one of the country's busiest team of infrastructure sector financiers and advisers” is expanding its traditional strengths in infrastructure, metals and mining and energy to newer verticals.

As large infrastructure transactions are likely to contract as 2019 progresses, investors who would typically look to those big infra privatisations are increasingly turning their attention to sub-sectors, such as renewables.

Sean also discussed how RBC is partnering with Canadian funds and strategic investors as they increasingly look at taking positions in Australian and Asian assets across a number of sectors including real estate and infrastructure, with a number establishing offices in Australia and across the region.
